BORIS WINNING FOR LONDON!!!

20 Jun

Its amazing how much Boris has achieved during his reign as Mayor.

Policing London always a difficult task was in dire need of help .Ken left London in tatters, and Boris is slowly and methodically reversing a very sad  situation.

In 2012 there will be 1 million more patrols than 2008

BACK BORIS

And now the facts: more police – and less crime

Fascinating piece by Deputy Mayor for Policing Kit Malthouse in the Evening Standard today and well worth a read.

The safety of London’s streets has become a hot topic recently and it is worth a quick recap of how things were in May 2008. When Boris was voted in as Mayor crime was one of London’s most pressing issues – robberies were increasing; violent crime as up; gun crime was up; 27 teenagers were murdered in 2007 alone.

Yet the previous Mayor, Ken Livingstone, was ignoring the issue. In February 2008 he was exposed for conning Londoners after he wrongly claimed to be putting more police on our streets – a line he is still peddling three years on. In fact he wasn’t. He was relying on the boroughs and the Government to put police on our streets.

In contrast Boris Johnson has taken control of the Met since becoming Mayor. He installed a new commissioner, got officers out from behind their desks and onto our streets and is investing in policing. As Kit Malthouse says in his article, there will be around 1,000 extra police officers on our streets over Boris’s term in office.

That, along with introducing single patrolling and other measures, mean there will be one million more patrols annually in May 2012 than there were in May 2008. This has helped bring crime in London down by almost 9%; robberies are down by 20% and youth crime is down by 15%; murders are at their lowest level since 1978. In fact London is the safest it has been in 10 years.

Obviously there is more to do, but we are heading in the right direction.
